Hatchmates
Privacy
Last updated November 6, 2026
The short version: there are no accounts, no cookies, and no ads. We never ask for your name or email. We count what happens in the game (visits, feeds, cleanups, votes) so we can tell whether the pet is being looked after, and we can't tie those counts back to you.
What we collect
- Page visits. The page you loaded, the site that linked you here, your browser and device type, and your screen size.
- What happens in the game. Joining and leaving, feeding, cleaning, playing, name votes, and how long a visit lasts. Each visit gets a new random ID, so two visits from the same person look like two different people.
- The pet's health. Hunger, fun, health and how many people are online, recorded every few minutes. None of this is about you.
- Errors. If the page crashes, we get the error message so we can fix it.
To count unique visitors without cookies, our analytics provider combines your IP address and browser details into a one-way code that changes every day. It doesn't store your IP address, and it can't follow you from one day to the next.
What we don't do
- No cookies, and no tracking pixels.
- No accounts, names, emails or passwords.
- No session recordings, and no ads. We don't sell or share data for advertising.
- No tracking across other websites.
What's saved in your browser
Two small values are kept in your browser's local storage. Both are needed for the game to work, and neither is used for analytics:
hatchmates-cid, a random ID so each browser gets one vote when naming a pet. It's sent to our server only to count your vote.hatchmates-intro-seen, which remembers that you've closed the welcome screen.
Clearing this site's data in your browser removes both.
What other visitors see
While you're here, everyone else sees your cursor, a random nickname like "Brave Otter", and what you do to the pet. Cursor positions aren't saved. Name votes are counted as totals, and nobody can see who voted for what.
Who handles the data
- Cloudflare hosts the site, so it handles your IP address to deliver the page and protect it from abuse. We may also use Cloudflare Web Analytics, which is cookieless too.
- PostHog (US servers) stores the analytics described above.
- Cloudflare Workers AI suggests names for each new pet. Nothing about visitors is sent to it.
Changes
If what we collect changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top.
